Search Engine Optimisation - SEO
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. It’s about making a web site’s pages visible for indexing by the search engines and having the right elements to help them rank well when someone enters a search word or phrase in Google or Yahoo, for example. There are no real secrets involved as much of what's required can be found on the internet but it does take some time to research and assimilate all that is required and then coded into the html code for a web page. The engines make alterations from time to time to how they index pages. You may also have heard of ‘black hat’ techniques to fool the engines into getting good rankings or positions. Search engines are clever and this runs the risk of being banned.
Many web sites still get built with no inclusion of SEO elements - even some of the basic stuff. A great looking site is of less use if it can’t be found. Yes, it can be a ‘brochure’ site that is linked to or is used for where the www.your-domain.co.uk is printed. But to get the best chance of being seen on the internet it has to be built correctly and it’s far better and cost effective to do this from the start.
True success will usually only occur when this is combined with link development.
